PAST PROJECTS
Agency DDOT (Copmleted 2009) Grunley & MPC constructed the Union Station Bicycle Transit Center, a 1,600 SF bicycle garage which offers secure storage for 130 bikes as well as a changing room, small bike shop and bike rental area. This architecturally signicant design is the first structure of its kind locally. The facility sits right above a Metro tunnel. To accommodate the tunnel, the 150' x 30' Bicycle Transit Center has a shallow, horizontal foundation. Echoing a bicycle wheel’s elegance and efficiency, arched steel tubes are stabilized by a series of “spokes” or stainless steel tie rods in order to lighten up the structure. An energy efficient “skin” optimizes transparency while further moderating temperature. Further minimizing heat gain, denser graduated ceramic frit low-e glazing, opens up progressively to views of the plaza level
Agency : FHWA/NPS (Completed 2007) Designed to honor the 16th president of the United States of America, Abraham Lincoln, the Lincoln Memorial was constructed starting in 1914, and completed and dedicated in 1922. Architect Henry Bacon designed the memorial to resemble a classical Greek temple, with 36 fluted Doric columns encircling the exterior, and a main chamber for the sculpture of President Lincoln. MPC performed all site work on this project.
Agency : USACE (Completed 2018) MPC reconstructed Lincoln, L'Enfant, Mitchell, and Ord & WeitzelDrives. The work included grading, asphalt pavement, aggregate base, drainage improvements, curb and gutter, utility relocations and other related work. The existing pavement and curbs have been removed and new curb and gutter set in asimilar offset and elevation as indicated on the cross sections. Utility relocations included relocating existing yard hydrants
behind new curb and gutter in addition to installing new drinking fountains.
